Our NOASC Backcountry Avalanche Awareness course provides participants with the
fundamentals of survival and rescue techniques in the backcountry and is recommended for all winter  sports lovers and people who may need to carry out on-snow rescues as part of their jobs, or when participating in winter sports outside resort boundaries. Our participants learn about safe travel, the mechanics of an avalanche (the science of an avalanche) and internationally recognised classifications/snow profiling techniques, correct backcountry equipment and use of, size-up (analysing an accident/rescue scene), site control and scene management.


Practical skills include self-rescue, safe travel in the backcountry and the fundamentals
of avalanche rescues.

NOASC Niseko BackCountry Avalanche Awareness Course (BAAC) 

Course Description:  

AM: Classroom instruction on Avalanche characteristics, Avalanche types, Backcouuntry hazards, Avalanche terrain,  Route selection, Backcountry equipment, and it's correct use.

PM: In the field, we practice what we learnt in our AM session concentrating on correct decision making techniques and search &  rescue. 

Course Dates:   Course No.1      2013/12/24 Tuesday

Course Duration:        8:00~18:00

Meeting Time:        AM 7:40

Location:             20-6 Aza Yamada, Kutchan cho, Abuta gun, Hokkaido, Japan 044-0081                NOASC Adventure Base, Niseko, Japan.

Trainer:            Ross Carty

CAA(Canadian Avalanche Association) Operations level 1,

Backcountry Guide experience 25 years,

Australian Ski patrol experience 8 years (currently active Thredbo Ski Patrol member)

Japanese Ski Patrol 2 years.

 

Participant Prerequisities:      Beginner Backcountry Enthusiast and above.

Course Maximum Numbers: 15 persons

Course fee:        13000yen  Note:Includes basic Insurance

Indemnity Wavier(risk) Form:

All particpatants will be required to sign a indemnity wavier/risk form.

Personal Equipment:

Ski/Snowboard/Telemark skis( including appropraite touring bindings & ski seals, or snowshoes for hiking up) Backcountry safety equipment (Avalanche beacon, Probe pole, Snowshovel, Snow saw) , Backpack, & Lunch (including energy snacks for the afternoon session).

NOTE: NOASC does does provide a rental service for some of this items above, but numbers are limited. Rental is provided on a first come, first served basis.

Application Closing date:     1 week prior to day of course, or when the course is full which ever comes first.

Cancellation policy: A cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations made within seven days of the course.  7-2 days before the course 40% cancellation fee,  Day before the course 50%  On the day 100% Cancellation fee.7
